Choreographic and Performative Works

C L A I M

(a work in progress)

New work in creation for The University of Akron Dance Company. I was drawn to the idea of putting a woman on a pedestal and analyzing the very limited amount of space is allotted when we do this. C L A I M seeks to investigate this space and how women are expected to compromise and limit their space in society. I am drawn to the question of what happens when women are given the agency to claim their own space.

They Say They See Me

A work created in part of my Thesis performance at The University of Iowa which premiered in 2019. They Say They See Me is a self-choreographed solo in which I use my position as both choreographer and performer to uncover aspects of my identity that are hidden under conditioned performative responses. I situate the spectatorship of the audience as the key factor in my habit to conceal parts of myself in performance. This solo seeks to complicate the spectacle nature of dance performance, re-pattern the way the audience connects to their gaze, and the ways that I can connect more of my identity to my performance.

i barely was

A collaborative work created for the International Writers Program at The University of Iowa in 2019. The work was choreographed in response to a written piece of poetry entitled Stuffed by Aušra Kaziliūnaitė.

Sonja's Words

A screendance directed and edited by me as part of a continued collaboration of performances with performer Sonja Schultz.

The Synergists

A work created in part of my Honors Research project at The University of Akron. This piece was in response to research into synapses and brain mapping while also investigating the similarities of the choreographic process and the scientific method. This piece also investigates the combined use of multimedia in live performance.
